DJ Tips: Dealing With Quantize Issues

Back at it again with another steaming hot tip for selectors of the world, A-Tonez is this week dealing with Quantize issues.

In his own words, “this TonezTip will take you through the quick steps to work around this and will stem into future tips in regards to using quantize and adjusting beat grids accurately and effectively.”

Dive into the process below and take note!

#TonezTips > DJ’s have you ever had the issue of going to cue up a track or add a hot cue and the player automatically jumps to a different spot in the track. What you should notice is the track is jumping to the nearest “Beat Grid” line and adding the marker there. This is caused by a feature called #Quantize and can be an issue if your tracks don’t have an accurate beat grid which will make it impossible to set an accurate cue marker.

This TonezTip will take you through the quick steps to work around this and will stem into future tips in regards to using quantize and adjusting beat grids accurately and effectively.

1 – If you notice the beat grid on the waveform either in #Rekordbox or on the #CDJ isn’t lining up with the beat of the track and causing you to not be able to put a cue where you need to then the simple work around is to just turn quantize off. This will stop the deck or your computer from looking at the grid and allow you to add cues and hot cues wherever you like in the track.

(Another time you will notice quantize to interfere is when using hot cues, if quantize is on than the buttons will only respond to a beat step “determined by you” ie: 1/8, 1/4, 1 etc. if quantize is off than the buttons will respond accordingly to each press)

2 – To turn quantize off in Rekordbox, have a look on the top left hand side of the waveform and you will see a green button which says “Quantize” when lit green quantize is on.

2(b) – To turn off Quantize on the CDJ it’s button is positioned on the bottom left of the screen (See image) when red light is on quantize is on.

Hope that helps
