Who Is Leading Australia’s Drum & Bass Scene?

Perhaps the strongest subculture existing in electronic music is drum and bass. Since its birth in the late 80s, drum and bass has persevered with little change to the genre, and the fans’ love of it (just look at The Met in Brisbane‘s line up this Friday!). With a rich history of artists and sounds from all over the world, it’s had a huge impact not only on electronic music of all genres, but of mainstream music too.

While one can’t forget the veterans of the genre, like Chase & Status, Pendulum, Netsky and Rudimental, there’s a whole new generation of D&B producers who are taking the genre to whole new levels. A huge number of these are homegrown too, with reputations and sounds taking them to some incredible heights. Here are a few of our picks for Australia’s hottest new drum and bass talent.

Flowidus

Blaine Stranger

DAUNTLESS

Severity Zero

Safire

Ekko & Sidetrack

Royalston

Lockjaw

Shockone

Having previously started a band with Pendulum, it seems unsurpsising that the top of our list is Perth’s Shockone. He’s been getting some major play on mainstream radio as of late, and playing some of the countries biggest festivals. His remix for Dillon Francis and NGHTMRE’s ‘Need You’ is ten times as nuts as the original, and has been getting monstrous plays on Soundcloud.

He’s at the top of his game, and at the top of the scene. He’ll also be playing a show at The Met in Brisbane tomorrow night alongside Sydney bass house up and comer VENGEANCE. It’s a part of his ‘In This Light Tour’, and it’s set to be huge. Best of all? It’s only 20 bucks before 12. Get tickets over at The Met’s Facebook event, check dates for the rest of Shockone’s ‘In This Light Tour’ below, and tickets right here.
