Nina Kraviz Responds to Criticism of Melbourne Show in Facebook Post

Whether it’s because the artist is a no show, they cut their set early, or conditions at the venue were terrible, there are a whole bunch of different reasons why someone might go about trying to get a refund for their ticket. For musicians playing their own tracks live, dissatisfaction at their performance could be another reason why people would want to get their money back. For DJs though, tracks are always played true to the original (remixes and effects aside). So when does it become okay to ask for a refund to a DJ set? Some punters who attended smalltown Festival in Melbourne on Saturday felt entitled to one, claiming that among fellow headliners Marcel Dettmann and Bjarki, Nina Kraviz did not deliver the experience they were after.

She has shared a lengthy response via her Facebook page since – here’s what she had to say:

Professional and well-known DJs definitely have a sound associated with them. While they might not produce, the tracks they spin then develop a reputation, and their fanbase associates that sort of genre and sound with their live sets. So yes, while there might be an understandable disappointment that you didn’t hear the sort of techno you were after, a DJ is also a selector. Going into a set, you trust that the DJ is going to choose tracks that they want to play, and isn’t that what we’re paying to see?

Do you think they’re right to ask for their money back? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
