A kickstarter campaign has resulted in the launch of the world’s first levitating turntable.
MAG-LEV audio have produced a floating turntable through the use of magnetic technology and sensor software providing accurate and consistent spinning of the turntable plate. The plate actually hovers above the turntable base, which is further enhanced by lighting effects for all the visual – tech lovers.
The Kickstarter project needs to raise $300,000 to get the MAG-LEV into production, and has so far raised $81,000 towards the goal.
With the recent resurge of Vinyl records and turntable DJ’s in current times I wonder whether this product will have any relevance to the dance music scene. The product seems more on the novelty spectrum with a focus towards the home bound record enthusiasts, rather than the travelling all vinyl DJ.
It won’t be until the product is released that we will know if the turntable is mixer friendly, but for now iIll be saving towards the new release of the technics SL 1200 and some new records for all my wax friendly needs….
