Interview: Slander Talk Australian Tour And Upcoming Collaborations

We were lucky enough to get a chance to speak with Slander ahead of their upcoming Australian tour. The bass-music duo based out of Los Angeles have been throwing down constantly, from their angelic remix of DJ Snake’s “Let Me Love You,” to the banging facelift they gave Jack U’s “Mind.”

We picked their brain on their upcoming Australian tour, upcoming collaborations and their highlights of the year. Check out the interview below.

SR: Alright guys – firstly, who are you guys and where are you from?

SLANDER: We are Derek Andersen and Scott Land. Two Los Angeles born producers and we started our project in 2010!

SR: Do you feel like spending a lot of time in OC impacted your music style at all? If so in what way?

SCOTT: We went to college in OC and the friends we met during school impacted us musically. The first time we were introduced to electronic music and shows was during our first years in school.

DEREK: Trance was my first love. I listened to it for a few years before getting into house and electro followed by trap and dubstep.

SR: So you’re about to embark on your first world tour, passing through Australia – excited? What are you looking forward to doing in your down time?

SCOTT: Every day is blessing. We dreamed about doing shows for years so we are extremely grateful to be able to travel the world and make people happy with our music. We are excited to eat great food in Australia and hang with some friends we made last year on our first tour down under.

SR: Lets talk your ‘Let Me Love You’ remix. Its clocked over 1.3 million in plays in just over 2 weeks. What was the inspiration behind this remix?

SCOTT: Its been incredible to watch this remix grow. It is on its way to becoming the most popular track we have ever done. DJ Snake is a good friend and his music inspires us. We aimed to make a DJ friendly version that would fit our sets so we went with our more emotional style to match the vocal emotion.

SR: In terms of upcoming music, are there any projects or collaborations in the works that fans might be able to see in the near future?

SCOTT: Our collab with YOOKiE should be released in the next few weeks! We are super excited about this record and its already been played out by Skrillex and Jack Ü. We also have collabs with San Holo, Boombox Cartel and Illenium that are almost complete. Finally we have two new original vocal records that we cannot wait to show the world. We’ve been perfecting these tracks for that last few months and we are very happy with the direction our original music is taking.

SR: Whats been your highlight of 2016 so far?

SCOTT: Two sold out headline shows with NGHTMRE at the Hollywood Palladium on July 1st and 2nd. The first show sold out in 14 minutes and the second sold out in 1 hour. Over the course of those two days we played for 8000 happy fans 🙂

SR: What are 3 plugins that you couldn’t live without?

Serum is really our only go to, but we are excited to try out this new mixing plugin called Neutron that just dropped this week.

SR: Any Australian artists we should watch out for?

We met and worked on a song with Naderi last year during our first Australian tour. He is an amazing person and producer. Hopefully we can finish up the song we started this year!

SR: Awesome.. Thanks for your time guys!
