An eager festival head and lover of shiny things has made the effort to build a giant LED ball.
YouTube user ‘burgerga123‘ is the man behind the creation, who claims his love of LEDs lead the spawning of the ‘SOL CRUSHER’. And yes, that is what he actually named it.
The SOL CRUSHER is made up 540 addressable LEDs, 180 custom circuit boards and uses 150W of LED power to run. It also has some rather impressive light patterns and colour schemes. The effort was REAL in this one.
The video popped up on Reddit this morning, along with the build log for those curious in making this on their own.
However, the project wasn’t necessarily cheap, costing a total of $1,400, with the most expensive purchases as follows:
- $350 PCBs
- $300 Batteries
- $100 LEDs
- $60 prototype PCBs
