Radiohead event in Istanbul has been attacked

A Radiohead listening event has been subject to a vicious attack over the weekend.

A group of 20 men yesterday vandalised and attacked the Velvet IndieGround Record Store in Istanbul, Turkey, while fans were celebrating Radiohead’s latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool.

Footage from the attack has been uploaded to Periscope and ">YouTube. Speaking on the attack, Reddit user identikitistheshit says “I was one of the hosts. I am the person that’s speaking in that video. I am the owner of that Periscope account. They were determined to kill us.”

“We were beaten by more than 20 men with pipes in their hands, beer bottles were broken on our heads, I don’t even know how we made it out. I will share the details later guys. Just hoping that no one will die.”

A fan has uploaded a photo to Twitter displaying their injuries caused by the attack, stating “”Here’s one of your fans got beaten by the fascists. This is just happened an hour ago. “.

It is believed the reasoning behind the attack is due to the alcohol being consumed during the holy month of Ramadan.

Radiohead have made an official statement on the event, saying “Our hearts go out to those attacked tonight at Velvet IndieGround in Istanbul. We hope that someday we will be able to look back on such acts of violent intolerance as things of the ancient past. For now, we can only offer our fans in Istanbul our love and support.”

The venue has made it clear in a Facebook post that any victims should contact them if they need help.
