Over the European summer, London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) will be home to an exhibition dedicated to Detroit’s techno scene.
The exhibition Detroit: Techno City will follow the evolution of Detroit techno covering the genres’ origins from the 1970’s to the early 1990’s. Detroit: Techno City demonstrates the crossing of paths between European and US techno and how it travelled to Europe. It also showcases the use of the Roland TR-808 and Roland TR-909 drum machines, a key element in the techno scene as well as covering the genres’ timeline through the works of highly-respected DJs and Producers that shaped and pioneered the style.
Producers such as Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, Eddie Fowlkes, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson have made an impact on the techno scene and challenged the mainstream music industry along with the second wave of producers including Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig and Kenny Larkin.
Detroit: Techno City runs from July 27 to September 25
