From the Belleville three to Seth Troxler and Moodymann, Detroit is seen by many as being the home base and ground zero when it comes to techno.
Which is why it’s no surprise that in the run-up to popular music festival Movement Detroit, which is happening this week, city officials have given us all another reason to revere the city for its techno sound.
Mayor Mike Duggan has now penned the paperwork which officially recognises this week (May 23rd – 30th) as being from now, until forever, Detroit Techno Week.
“Come out and celebrate the festivities, as it creates local and international awareness of Detroit’s rising creative culture” Mr Duggan stated.
Techno week will draw attention to the instrumental role the city played in fostering the sounds and artists which make techno what it is today. Imagine if an Australian city could usher in the next genre of electronic music, it’s a shame most of us are told to go to bed at 1:30am instead.
