Time Warp NYC Executes A Stunning Second Showing

From the delightfully plain exterior to the inviting black dance floor decor, Cosmopop’s rendition of a good old fashioned warehouse party is just what the dance doctors ordered for the Big Apple’s blossoming electronic scene. Thriving off of the cities lack of late night club restrictions, the dedicated local following of underground aficionados have been bred on bass, punk, and a healthy dose of weird club culture.

Nestled in the wasteland of industrial storage on the outskirts of the most bustling city in world, the site for Time Warp’s second year in Brooklyn was proof that rave culture in America has just about come full circle. After recent years littered with electronic music regrets painted in neon across hundreds of clickbait Djs, it’s refreshing to see promoters, artists, and most importantly fans driven to the dance floor. Sure the phones came out from time to time but only to document the subtle yet exquisite display of lights and lasers that added just the right amount of ambiance to a purposefully dreary backdrop.

Without hype men, without CO2 cannons, and definitely without cake, techno deities took the stage one after another to deliver two nights of raw four on the floor electronic bliss. From Troxler and Jones’ marathon set of soulful, jackin house to Sven’s driving mix of European bliss fans were stunned by the lineup of mainly imports. Personal favorite Black Coffee shook the massive warehouse with a grueling blend of distorted deep house and techno.

The monotonous beat of techno drums echoed well into the morning light of Brooklyn’s chilly shores. At the close of the massive event, Time Warp’s successful second year breeds hope that America’s young dance fans have left sampled big room-pop behind for intricately-crafted sounds of house and techno. New York lives for the night, it’s about time America’s dance music reflects the house Detroit and Chicago built.
