It’s not that uncommon for multiple DJs to scratch together across a series of decks on stage. But 40 DJs is a hefty number. Introducing the world’s biggest “Scratch orchestra”:
Led by legendary masterminds including Jazzy Jeff, QBert, Z-Trip and Nu-Mark, the phenomenal event took place in Japan, while the turntablists were in town for the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals, a weeklong DJ championship. The grand final featured 18 DJs from 17 countries – and the winner was DJ Byte, from Chile.
Each of the “master turntablists” sent a team of artists and fellow participants to a Tokyo studio, where they each recorded 32 bars at specific BPMs. The end result is a dazzling and unbelievably impressive effort, spanning 40 turntables, six PA mixers and a whole lot of musical wonderment.
