Ta-ku (based god) has put his spin on the classic Estelle track American Boy, with a little help from vocalist Wafia. The Perth artist has stated that his rework of American Boy started as a joke after hearing the song in an old Kobe Bryant Reel, which inspired him to create a “striped back #emotional” version”, but Ta-ku’s latest is nothing short of incredible.

Ta-ku creates a luscious progression of chords, accompanied by his signature keys and strings that play echoing synth melodies, driving the cover in a strong, yet mellow direction. The sublime vocal duet between Ta-ku and Wafia takes the track to a whole new level, with their emotion-evoking vocals creating a dreamy, sensual atmosphere.

With Ta-ku days away from embarking on his maiden US tour, there’s gonna be plenty of American girls (and boys) who will be lucky enough to catch Australia’s premier beatsmith in the flesh.

Back on our own shores, he’s set to perform at a number of festivals throughout the New Years period, including Southbound and Beyond the Valley.
