Nina Las Vegas Farewells Triple J

After over a decade of work that culminated in spinning and presenting tunes as part of her own show on Triple J, yesterday Sydney electronic music legend Nina Las Vegas announced her departure from the station, and her reasons for leaving are absolutely huge.

In a post which will go down in Facebook history as one of the most gorgeous and heartfelt farewells ever, Nina thanked a huge list of people both in her history at Triple J, her family, musicians, and of course her listeners.

“Most importantly, I want to thank YOU for listening to my first triple j mixtapes, calling in during my early House Party years, hanging out at triple j broadcasts, coming to House Party gigs and texting in when I play something crazy on Mix Up Exclusives.

You, the listeners, have been my secret NLV journey. If I play a cool song, you tell me. If I say something stupid on air, you laugh with me. You guys are the most supportive people to ever experience anything with, and that’s why I wanted to keep this job for so damn long! When I was in high school, I planned my days around triple j. I woke up to Adam & Wil and listened while I prepped for my HSC exams. I know how important triple j is to you, ‘cause it was SUPER important to me. Every time I’m on air, I think about that.”

After almost 11 years at triple j, October 24th will be the last time I’ll be presenting Mix Up Exclusives on triple j….

Though she’s stepping away from the mic, it certainly won’t be the last we hear of Nina. She’s announced her own label, NLV Records, which she’s teasing more info about in the coming weeks, and says that she’s keen to keep producing more of her own music – having put out a bunch of sick tracks earlier this year alongside Melbourne producer Swick. No doubt she’ll continue throwing her sick NLV Presents shows as well, bringing us the best in sick local and international acts.

So though Nina’s saying goodbye to Triple J and Mix Up Exclusives, have no fear. If anything, this is the next step in Nina becoming bigger and more influential than she’s ever been before – though that’s hard to believe.
