Newcastle legend Just A Gent is coming in hot with plenty of forward thinking new music, including a delicious remix of Planet Funk’s classic ‘Chase the sun‘. A man who’s creatively controlling his own destiny popped by to chat to us before his show at The Met in Brisbane tonight about what brings his character together, and how he got there. Here are some interesting facts that you should know about the freshly cut 18 year old producer.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

 

I went to the Powderfinger X Silverchair across the great divide tour when I was 10 (Newcastle reppin’!)

What was the first dance track you ever remember hearing?

 

– Who would you point out as being your biggest single influence in the world of music?

 

Seven Lions

– Do you think it’s important to have a signature sound? if so, why?

 

Not at all, although it is always nice to hear a song and say, I know this sound, this is… But being creative and diverse is a huge part of what makes producing music so fun.

– What do you do to keep your music fresh, forward thinking and innovative?

 

I play a lot of video games and watch a lot of sci-fi movies and I feel like thinking of what the future will be like is what inspires me most of the time.

– What’s your go to Halloween costume for this year?

 

The classic Aladdin

– You’re a gentleman and the music industry is quite male dominated.What do you think people should do to encourage more women to be involved?

 

I think more and more women are becoming involved but maybe just a bit of chivalry in the clubs could go a long way 😉
