5 Tracks Rudimental Grew Up Listening To

On the day of their second album release dubbed ‘We The Generation‘, we caught up with UK’s numero uno drum n bass four piece vibe crew, Rudimental! Oh yes, the guys who’ve famously lit dance halls alight through the success of their thumping ‘Home’ album are back to rock the world once again.

What some of you may not know is, this is a crew that of large grew up together. So to further gain some insights into the background of their influences in the music that they make, we asked them for five rompers they use to listen to in their teenage youth! Here’s what they use to cut their style too!

Computer games – George Clinton

‘Funkiest track in the world. Opened me up to electronic funk, and getting mad with filters on synthesisers. We had the privilege of working with the legend on a couple of tracks on We The Generation, literally a dream come true.”

Marvin Gaye – What’s going on

‘The album from which this is taken has got to be one of the best of all time in western music. Themes of pain, bitter sweet beauty, ecology and love resonated with me deeply as as a teenager!’

DJ Zinc – 138 Trek

‘Was the theme to my UK garage, pirate radio years. Break beat and garage mashed together, still relevant today.’

Roy Davis Jr – Gabriel

‘I first heard this on on a speed garage compilation and it blew me away, first time garage music reached into my soul… Still play this out, and we always invite him down to go back to back with us whenever were in LA.’

Goldie – Innercity Life

‘I loved the video as it was shot up the road from where I grew up in Camden! The theme tog growing up in London, brought jungle music to a more soulful and abstract place.’

Rudimental will be touring Australia this December, so be sure to get all the words from their somewhat Jamaican influenced album before you hit the event halls to party with them!
