The Technics Turntable Lives? Panasonic Shows Off Prototype In Berlin

Panasonic looks to revive the worlds most famous turntable after announcing the return of the Technics model at its annual IFA conference in Berlin according to Wired.

While the prototype looks far from complete or take any obvious cues from it’s famed SL-1200 and SP10 tables the company has said it will reflect the “esteem” in which the original product was seen by fans of analogue before it ceased production in 2010.

The new table is said to have been built from the ground up with new technology for all entry levels while boasting a direct drive underneath its polished aluminium body and aimed more at audiophiles than club DJs but still… TAKE OUR MONEY!

Michiko Ogawa, director of Technics and executive officer at Panasonic told Wired that “Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand,” adding “It is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”

There are no concrete dates for availability or recommended price but exciting to see Panasonic join Pioneer and Newmark who have both shared new products within the turntable market in the last 12 months.
