Richie Snags A Degree For Techno

Richie Hawtin is an dance music innovator to say the least. After his nationwide CNTRL college talk series and a major investment in revolutionary cloud-based mastering service LANDR, Hawtin is ready to kick off another massive season of Enter Ibiza. By taking is a step further than just dishing out on the decks, the Canadian techno legend has contributed an infinite amount since the early days of Plastikman.

This week Richie adds another notch to his belt with a uni degree all in the name of techno. That’s right, the University of Huddersfield handed Hawtin a Honorary Doctorate for being a stellar producer, DJ, and all around bad ass example of #winning in dance music. Without attending a single class, this recognition is based his contributions to the real world of dance. From the streets of Detroit to the clubs of Berlin, Richie and his crew have inspired quality electronic music for years to come.

Having left University at a time when one could not study music technology, in order to pursue his musical ambitions, and having found himself touring US Universities 20 years later to help students understand his methods, it is highly appropriate he is here today as a large number of music technology students graduate this afternoon. As the New York Times put it, ‘Hawtin is one of the electronic dance world’s intellectual forces.

Make sure to keep watch for detail on Enter. from the white isle. With streaming video of the madness all last year, Richie is sure to make a statement with underground dance’s best sounds and sake of course.
