Japan Finally Squashes Ancient Anti-Dancing Law

Japans battle with the ancient anti-dancing laws known more within the government as ‘fuzoku’ or ‘fueiho’ which aimed to control prostitution has now been lifted and offer a chance for Japans club scene to explode.

The 67-year old legislation was changed and formalised by Japans House of Chancellors this week which now means clubs can stay open past midnight if they attain to certain rules.

Strangely enough it came down to lights, with venues offering more than ’10 lux’ – which is a unit of luminance, the chance to apply for a licence to operate 24 hours.

Those clubs that don’t make the ’10 lux’ cut can still operate past with the license midnight as an “adult entertainment business” but will have lesser hours to do so.

It’ll now come down to police to check lighting rather then sleazy patrons in what will hopefully be Japans thriving club scene moving forward!

Unrelated but we found this video when searching for Japans anti-dancing laws
