The Bloody Beetroots Reveal Fresh Plans For 2015

Italian producer Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo a.k.a. The Bloody Beetroots is headed back to the clubs to bring you a fresh fix of multi-instrumental talent and production for 2015. The masked Italian is back on Dim Mak working on revitalizing the wild club vibe that coined the Beetroots. When you collab with Paul McCartney, shred guitar, and have a background in classical music, every release is something to look forward to. Sure he is still behind the mask, but new moniker SBCR (Satan Bass City Rockers) is more raw than ever.

Under the shade of the Miami palms we sat down and talked Italian influence, club crossovers, and classical vibes. For every aspiring musician out there it’s prime to know your E’s, F’s, C’s and G’s. Classical music has been an essential influence throughout the years. Bob’s background is an unholy melody of traditional tones and heavy metal style.

“If you study classical music you have the basics to start making music so you have a better knowledge of what you’re doing with the chords,” adding that, “We have minor 7 and G and people don’t really know what that means.”

…we can read sheet music but really trust the guy smashing stadiums and shutting the club down. His six track EP SBCR & Friends Vol. 1 is a sampling of Rifo’s signature electro-house, dance-punk flavor.

In Italy electronic music has for the most part stayed underground aside from the disco dance and pop. In a culture where there was no genre bubble, sounds don’t trend by the second and heavy club music remains king.

“Electronic music wasn’t really big in Italy and now-a-days electronic music isn’t big in Italy because we have a different culture.”

Although at the same time he explained that:

“It seems that it’s great now but because electronic dance music is such a huge brand and has been going to the pop culture…it has been invading how we’re thinking about pop music,” adding that, “It’s getting big in Italy too because of what happened back in the days but at that time it wasn’t part of Italian culture, we were just two or three guys making music.”

The move towards returning to the clubs instead of large festivals is largely for the fans and the more intimate club vibe. C’mon, everyone can admit to getting down to ‘Warp’ or another bomb with Aoki (pre-cake days). Back then there were dark dance floors, masks, and sweaty club nights…. time to put down your Snapchat and bring those back.

“It seems strange to say but the bigger you get the less you are able to communicate with people,” adding that, “sometimes when you get so big it sometimes is impossible to talk, to shake their hands…That’s why I really wanted to bring back something closer to my fans to stay with them.”

“I play big festivals too but the focus is to play in small clubs and try to get closer to them because I feel the need to have a new demography who don’t know who The Bloody Beetroots are…to make it bigger from a lower profile.”

As much as a perfect margherita pizza, music and fashion have always been a part of Italian culture; why not do both? As far as creative outlets go, collaborations with fashion designers are nothing new. Rocking a black leather jacket and black jeans in the heat of South Beach says it all (as if there is any other color).

“Music and fashion are like mirrors…I do the same with my music so I try to make it contemporary year by year without forgetting the roots.”

As SBCR becomes synonymous with the dance floor, Bob has three EPs planned for the year. Tapping out up-and-coming homies to join the L.A. team, we predict an interesting future for the project. You can expect Volume Two around June and another in late October. Until then, we will see ya on the dance floor.
