Another Iconic Australian Club Goes Up For Sale

It’s been a sour 12 months for venues with lockout laws surely putting direct pressure on owners and promoters with a string of sales and closures across Australia.

The sad times continue with iconic South Australian club Sugar being put on the market that could see it either continue as a venue that has hosted the likes of Moodymann, Soul Clap, Seth Troxler and Jeff Mills as well as Untzz Twelve Inch parties or face closure.

Majority owner and operator Driller Amstrong outlined his reasoning for the sale;

“I have spent a lot of my time concerned with the business of Sugar and far less time than I am used to focusing on my art and other projects of my making.” Armstrong told Resident Advisor adding “Cancer changes everything. It really draws you to what is important. I want to put the focus back on me and I want to worry a lot less.”

Adding that the pioneers and innovators of the underground pay great compliments to the Adelaide venue telling Rip It Up;

“People who have travelled the world and compared know this to be true. The pioneers and the innovators of underground music are always wanting to return to play at sugar and that is the greatest compliment…I will be very proud of the opportunities we’ve given to so many young people with a passion for music and art.”

Up until it’s final sale it’ll continue as a venue and club.
