The Prodigy Give A Brutal Assessment Of The Dance Music Scene

Controversial to say the least, The Prodigy have come out in a recent interview taking aim at DJs in the build up to their forthcoming album release and Australian tour with Future Music Festival alongside Drake, Gorgon City and Tchami among others.

In a recent interview with UK paper The Standard, Prodigy member Liam Howlett spoke about the groups 6th album and his discontent of the music scene by stating;

“We’ve always been like a big broom that’s just cleaning up – wiping the floor. They don’t bother us (DJs). It’s mainly DJs. If the dance scene is made up of DJs, that don’t bother us.”

Furthering the distance between them and DJs he continued: “We’re in different zones to them. We don’t make music like those kind of acts. We view ourselves as in our own kind of area. We’re fans of some people out there, but when you’ve got a scene built on DJs, that’s not healthy. We need more bands that make this kind of music.”

In terms of what we can expect from their 6th album, Howlett, 43, moved forward in saying “It’s violent-sounding — on the edge. It’s us doing what we do best.” Get your grunge on! If you are looking for a taste of how the band fairs on stage, listen to The Prodigy live in 1994.

Better still cop an interview and live performance of The Prodigy in Australian at the now passed Big Day Out festival
