Major Lazer manipulator Diplo has taken the reigns of his own radio show on BBC Xtra 1 to round out Hip Hop month that saw two weeks back the project of Perth based cats Ta-Ku and Kit Pop as HWLS do their thing as well mixes as DJ Premiere and Hudson Mohawke.

His take on, well his own Diplo & Friends Mix is one that really turns back the clock as it sways to early cuts from Madvillain, J Dilla, Big L, The Notorious BIG, The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, Royce Da 5’9 and much much more.

Surprised to see Diplo’s deep knowledge of Hip Hop? Don’t be, as Wentz explains himself “I’ll tell you right now, as a DJ and producer this is my roots,” with the two hour long mix a testament to exactly that.

At 64 tracks deep this really is a history lesson of the be all and end all of Hip Hop that also shaped the musical careers of other DJs and producers including Bromance head Brodinski and scratch master A-Trak.
