Ben Frost was born and bred in Melbourne and it’s weird to think that he has never played a headline show here. Now living in Iceland, Frost is returning with his incredible live show off the back of the release of his new album, A U R O R A. Receiving acclaim from basically everyone to ever exist, Frost’s A U R O R A has catapulted his production into a league of it’s own, creating darker and more powerful music unlike anything he has made before.
The release of the first single of the album, Venter is the first sample of Frost’s collaboration with Greg Fox (formerly of Liturgy), Thor Harris and Shahzad Ismaily. The result is heavy percussion, menacing chimes that dissolves into complete mayhem at 4 minutes. A clashing of sonically abrasive sounds somehow makes for a completely frightening yet cathartic mash of drone, drums and despair – and it just works.
Ben Frost has already been announced on the 2015 MOFO lineup alongside Tim Hecker, Swans and Omar Souleyman, with Novel announcing a Melbourne show in February next year at The Hi-Fi Bar (tickets).
