Forgive Me Father, For I Have Synthed.

In desperation to listen to something not defined by genre, killed by commercialism or awkwardly, pacing up and down struggle street, trying to be different; I came across these four artists that are doing it differently and deserve the attention. Better yet? We’ve done the hard work surfing Soundcloud all day 😉

1. Atlas Bound (Australia)

Atlas Bound

Atlas Bound, is an Australian based Electronica duo act. Emerging from different musical backgrounds, this collaboration is sewn together by a soul/funk singer songwriter and electronic producer – I call it, Soul Electronica, sah creative!… I know.

Released on SC through without a doubt one of the best labels out there for sniffing out the goods, French label – Cosmonostro. Atlas Bound’s first single, “Lock”, begins with the saddest sounding vocals supported by slow piano chords that warm up nicely to a soft bongo patter. I can’t help but picture some romance seeing it’s final days as summer comes to a close and said lovers, “Lock” up their hearts in remorse. The percussive “thumps,” that beat in tandem with your heart rate are introduced at 1:15, conjuring up the majority of the meaning in this piece. The 3.00 minute mark sees a fork in the road: option a) warp into a future bass orgy or b) catapult into a chet-faker baby maker. Lock, sees itself adhering to the latter.

Mildy repetitive, you could keep this track on a loop with the utmost of ease, and I highly recommend you do.  129,777 plays in 13 days is not a bad look.

2. Phazz (France)

Phazz

Also released on Cosmonostro (I’m sensing a pattern here on where the guds are), “Invictus”, produced by 22 year old, Phazz, is a really confusing and spell bounding piece.  Already supported by Plastician in his show on Rinse FM, Cashmere Cat, Just Blaze and BBC Radio 1, Phazz, is definitely one to keep an eye on.

The beginning is extremely grandiose and ceremonial, something you’d imagine playing during whilst the Last Supper was devoured. The drawn out synth leading up to an incredible change of pace at 0.58 keeps you on board, followed by distorted vocals. At 2.05, Flume’s cyber sound-doppelganger, is introduced for an epic future beat party.

3. TDY (Australia)

TDY

Another genre bending, innovative track coming from Australia. As impressive as the music itself, this is what TDY, had to say about himself, “I’m 17, I live on the central coast, I started learning music and producing at the same time (early last year), I’m entirely self-taught, I’ve always had an intense interest in music across pretty much every genre and when I got my laptop last year I decided to try and learn something about actually making music, I didn’t even know what a note was. I kept learning new things every day and I guess that’s what got me hooked, and when people started actually paying interest I couldn’t stop.

MASSIVE influences from people like Yahtzel, Flume (of course), xxyyxx, Flylo, then all the Australian sound artists like Sable, Akouo (f*cking legend), Wave Racer, Emoh, and right now I can’t stop trying to crack that Mr. Carmack feel.”

TLDR: HE STARTED A YEAR AGO AND WE HAVE THE SAME TASTE FROM CARMACK TO XXYYXX, AND YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO HIM AS OF YESTERDAY. SOLD.

4. SKVTR (Canada)

SKVTR

“Ladies” and “Cyprus”, are seemingly the only track’s SKVTR has released EVER, and BOTH within two months! The quality is reflected in the number of plays, establishing SKVTR as a very talented producer. The tranquil and unflustered beats create an amazing atmosphere, that cannot be pinned onto a single genre. I can only do my best to sum it up in these few words, “Forgive me father, for I have synthed.”

Stay tuned for part two…
