L D R U: A Young Guns View On Australian Dance Music Growth

Last week, we released Stoney Roads: Volume One, a compilation that included Sydney based Triple J slayer L D R U. Real name Drew Carmody, a 20 years young electronic song writer based on the beaches who is easy going in nature and has been making slick electronic for over two years after obtaining a bittersweet back injury at work that allowed him to put his creativity into action.

It’s easy to say anyone who hasn’t fallen for his breakthrough single ‘The Tropics’ hasn’t heard it. A summer jam that combines a cool melody with nicely pitched vocals and punchy kicks. L D R U is an independent producer who has increasingly proven that it is possible to run before walking having signed onto leading Australian label Future Classic (Flume, Flight Facilities, Hayden James) through his unique brand of sound in such a short time period.

To gain a better insight behind the producer, we posed to LDRU a question regarding the growth of the Australian scene from one of it’s youngest members:

As a young producer, what are your thoughts on the growth of the Australian dance music scene?

“Well every city in the world has a distinct scene, even if i travelled from Sydney to Brisbane or Sydney to Melbourne, let alone to an international city, its different, because every city in the world has a personality, and I don’t think music is any different.

As for growth in the dance music scene for Australia, personally I think it could go either way (good or bad) with all this new technology coming out. For example you could go to a festival with a crazy light show, strippers on stage, confetti the works and entertain 50,000 people with one USB stick haha. Or people will be playing live from there bedroom with a projector at the event and Skype linked up to it, you’ll never no what some genius will come up with next.

Overall artists in Australia are killing it and should get more recognition for there work! yew”

Download his track alongside singles from Yahtzel, Wave Racer, Cosmo’s Midnight and more as a part of Stoney Roads Volume One and check out the photoshoot with the artists here.
