Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” May Have Been Stolen From Korean Youtube Star

Cue serious crinkled brows and ‘hmmms’ on this one folks. Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, the hit that brought together millions, streamed millions and sold millions looks to possibly have found its roots from a Korean Youtube star.

Little known to the Western World guitarist Zack Kim uploaded back in 2011 a track called “Robot Dance” (you couldn’t script this) to Youtube that has to this day amassed almost 380,000 hits that, more recently has drawn comparisons to the robots biggest modern hit taken from their ‘Random Access Memories’ album.

When comparing the two, things start out fairly grey. They’re built on the same chord progression yes but the interesting bits are the extra riffs added by Zack two years earlier that bring the tracks much, much closer together.

The irony, Daft Punk have always looked to samples for their song writing. This could have been a slip in management not pulling the original, it could be blatant rip or yet more clever promotion for a single that is now in it’s final cycle.

Have a listen to both and you be the judge.
