Skrillex The Only Dance Act to Make Rolling Stones ’50 Greatest Live Acts’

Recently Rolling Stone released its “50 Greatest Live Acts Right Now“, a list voted on by a panel of writers, industry figures and artists.

Coming in at the top end of the list are big guns you’d expect to see, with the likes of Bruce Springsteen #1, Prince #2 and The Stones at #3. Towards the bottom however, sandwiched between Tame Impala and Mumford & Sons is the dubstep heavyweight Skrillex at #42.

With the influx in EDM over the last few years and the U.S. festival scene bigger than ever, it’s interesting to see only one dance act making on the list. But then again it is hard to compete with some of the classic acts like U2, Metallica Radio Head as well as pop icons Jay Z and Kanye.

Lars Ulrich of Metallica, who is a part of the voting panel, seemed very impressed by Sonys stage performance saying:
“When I saw him,” says Lars Ulrich, “it was 30,000 kids going fucking apeshit to this orgasm of lights and sound and strobes. I’ve never seen anything so completely over-the-top. It felt like it was on a spaceship.”

Skrillexs’ relentless attitude to touring is no doubt a factor to his success, having one of the most heavy tour schedules out there, doing over 300 shows in 2011. He will be also making the trek down under for the Stereosonic festivals in December. Playing only as his side project Dog Blood with fellow producer Boys Noize, who have just finished their new EP.
