Disco God Giorgio Moroder Brings Donna Summer’s Back To Life Through Remix

The legend of Italian disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder continues to grow with news confirming his involvement in a Donna Summer remix album that is due to drop in October. For some, Moroder is just the old dude with that crazy seductive voice on that “Random Access Memories” track, whose resurgence is attributable in large part to Daft Punk. Yet, this disco wizard has proven he’s still got it. Over the weekend we got our first sampling of Moroder’s reconfiguration of Summer’s classic “Love to Love You” and it is slow burning bona fide feel good summer (excuse the pun) banger. Moroder dropped the mix at Way Out West Festival in Sweden, where punters can be seen flipping their wigs.

The mix drops on the back of news from Verve Records that artist’s including Moroder, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper, Chromeo & Oliver and Hot Chip will tackle some of Summer’s disco gems. For Moroder, its a nostalgic return to the artist whose career he so greatly shaped. For others, its a step in a fresh direction. It’s top notch seeing Chromeo back in the game, and we know that Hot Chip can do no wrong, so exciting times are certainly ahead.

Summer’s and Moroder certainly established quite a daunting precedent for those involved. The late great disco diva and her Italian counterpart dominated the late 70’s and early 80’s boasting an impressive 12 top 10 hits in a span of 6 years, more than any other act. More importantly, her tunes have lived on as killer dance floor samples and party starters for the last 30 years, so you may be more familiar with some of the beats than you could possibly know. Luckily this has not scared off some of dance’s heavy hitters. Knuckles and Kupper will remix “Hot Stuff”, whilst Hot Chip have endeavoured to rework  “Sunset People”. The first single to be released will be Chromeo & Oliver’s remix of “Love Is In Control (Finger On the Trigger).”

The aptly titled “Love To Love You Donna” will drop on October 22, so get ready to crack out those stowed away roller skates and boogie to an exciting tandem of disco and dance legendaries.
