There have been countless remixes of Justin Timberlake’s new material over the last few weeks. Four Tet’s effort has been the stand out so far in terms of creativity, but when it comes to pure danceable grooves, Ta-ku delivers.
I saw him whip Goodgod Small Club into a frenzy last week alongside Nina Las Vegas, Lewi McKirdy and Emoh Instead of What So Not. Unfortunately he didn’t play any of his Dilla or Nujabes-inspired stuff, but the trap-heavy, gut-punching set delivered a different kind of satisfaction. Just as it appeared that Ta-ku was done ripping the crowd’s heads off, Nina grabbed the mike and told the club that she’d received a track from the Perth producer – one that he’d cooked up on a flight during the current tour – and that there was no excuse for not playing it immediately.
They did just that, and embarrassing dance moves erupted across that room.
