Chic’s Nile Rogers has hinted at a collaboration with French electronic duo Daft Punk.
When speaking with Houstons Culture Map he dropped the bombshell by saying “Those guys are great. They’re coming to my apartment on Monday and we’re going to talk about making a new record together”.
All of which could collide on a new album from the robot-two!
The Madonna producer also dropped some charming backlog on the entangled past of the two music acts blogging “We’ve briefly met before when they were doing some sort of listening party in NYC back in the 90’s. The scene was chaotic and we didn’t really have a chance to have an artistic connection, except they did tell me that they were sorry about my former partner Bernard Edward’s death. And they dug CHIC. The feeling is mutual.”
Chic will also be here for Playground Weekender post his lengthy and audious fight against cancer.
Update: speaking with Nile directly ITM have uncovered straight-from-the-source confirmation that indeed Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter had been at the Chic members house for an informal meeting.
At this stage though this doesn’t prove beyond doubt that there will be a Daft Punk album this year (we still doubt it).
