Over the weekend, the music industry and beyond suffered a massive loss with the passing of Lou Reed. Revolutionary in his musical stylings, Reed was part of an elite group of musicians whom changed the conventions of music unashamedly and without fear. A large part of his appeal was the speaking to the underdog, proudly preaching the dirty underbelly of the surroundings in which he found himself, showing how awful things can be beautiful in their own way.

With unparalleled influence, there was no doubt that there would be a few testaments from members of the music industry. Arcade Fire, the Arctic Monkeys and Twin Shadow have already covered the legend in honour of his good work, some successfully, some…questionably. But what about the dance industry’s take on Reed’s work? Have any tried to straddle the seemingly clashing genres of gritty rock and EDM? You bet your ass.

So after a bit of searching, here’s some of the hits and the misses. Starting with the worst and working through to the bearable. Some might call it paying respects, some might call it bastardisation, we’ll leave that up to you.

All we know is that we’ll miss you legend, R.I.P.

Sugar Daddies Remix. If the objective was to turn an amazing revolutionary song into a pseudo power-pilates track then mission accomplished. Pah.

Although the whole concept of a Bootleg can be a hit and miss with many, we’ll take this one. One for the groovers, and what’s more complimentary of the spirit of LR than that?
