Pauly D has ‘DJ Cred’ According to Beatport

Jersey Shore’s Pauly D has been recently interviewed by Beatport, who further claimed the former reality tv star to have ‘DJ Cred’. One can only speculate that this statement is an outcome of cultural shift in the business due to the SFX merger and is a product of corporatization as apposed to anyone at Beatport genuinely believing this bro has any talent.

Either way It maybe time for Beatport to reconsider doing any activity like this, as they have clearly no idea that this guy is not well respected by the DJ community. (great example here).  In the long term this could potentially tarnish Beatport’s brand equity and subsequently impact its customer base.

Below is the interview from Beatport titled “Pauly D on Maintaining his DJ Cred After Jersey Shore”

What was your first introduction to dance music? Any favorite old tracks?

I was first introduced to dance music at a club I used to spin at in Providence, Ultra Night Club. My favorite old track would have to be “Toca’s Miracle.”

When and how did you start?

I started DJing when I was 15. My first gig was actually at a sweet 16 party. As soon as I walked out and started spinning and felt their energy, I knew I wanted to do this the rest of my life.

When and why did you decide it was the right time to try your hand at production?

I have just loved music my whole life and love spinning for people and making them happy, so I wanted to give them something they could listen to in their homes, cars, gyms, etc.

What was your intention with making “Back to Love”?

“Back to Love” is a feel-good track. I wanted to give the world something they wouldn’t expect from me and something that they could relate to.

What sort of production tools did you use to make it?

Logic and Pro Tools.

Do you have other DJ/producer friends with whom you bounce ideas off of for tracks?

If so, what’s that process like?

Tony G, my A&R from my record label—we bounce ideas back and forth all day and night.

What’s more important to you: your Jersey Shore legacy, or making music? And why?

My experience on the Jersey Shore was amazing, but making music is far more important to me. I have been working on my music for over 15 years now and have worked incredibly hard to sustain my credibility in this industry
