Basement Jaxx and Cricket? A ‘Match’ Made In Heaven

British Dance act Basement Jaxx have been invited to perform at One Day Cricket matches in Australia come January!

The project is an attempt to lure younger fans to the game as explained by Cricket Australia’s marketing manager Julian Dunne; “One-day cricket is becoming a big social day out,”

“People are dressing up in costumes. It’s more than just the cricket, we want to extend the entertainment on and off the field.”

Basement Jaxx will DJ between innings when Australia takes on Sri Lanka at the MCG Jan 11th, the Gabba Jan 18th and the SCG Jan 20th. Punters with tickets will also gain access to a special after-party with the UK superstars.

While AFL and NRL have looked to their rock counterparts, Cricket Australia has embraced EDM with more acts to be announced soon.

When asked about the opportunity, Simon Ratcliffe of Basement Jaxx said the band have never been to a game of Cricket, bloody poms!

We’ve already come up with some suitable puns to sport on the day.
