Stoney Roads Premiere: Harvey McKay – Foreshadow EP [Soma]

2013 was a massive year for the Glasgow-based Harvey McKay. He released two EP’s on Adam Beyer’s highly sought-after Drumcode imprint, with the combination of both ‘Lost‘ and ‘The Illusion of Control‘ propelling him to the top of Beatport’s Techno charts three times (!) while helping to maintain his huge global following after previous releases on the likes of Sven Väth’s veteran Cocoon Recordings and 8 Sided Dice. But come March 17 Harvey will return to home label Soma Records for his ‘Foreshadow’ EP, with the stalwart delivering three big-room bombs backed with a thumping Frankyeffe mix, and guess what, we’ve got the premiere!

‘Are You Real’ kicks off the weighty release with chopped vocals, relentless percussion and perfectly timed breaks, while ‘Creep’ lightens it up a notch using hypnotic vocals to more of a tech-house realm. All guns are blazing by then end of the jam after a two-minute build so the 5am monster and EP highlight in ‘Sargon’s Birth’ steps in at an expert moment with its funked up crystal clear grooves primed for a good sound system, while Italian producer Frankyeffe reworks the last of Harvey McKay’s originals into a Detroit stomper, pulling out the synths for an unbelievably euphoric peak-time tune – funky, progressive, heavy.

If you haven’t heard of Harvey McKay or Frankyeffe before, now’s a good time to start. ‘Foreshadow’ will be out on Monday so until then check it out below. A fantastic EP from one of techno’s brightest stars and we’re stoked to have the first listen.
