STONEY CHARTS WEEK 8: ROBCHARLIE’S TOP TEN

chart_coverGather round, it’s that time again. This week is my turn to feature a top 10 chart as we like to do every Tuesday here at Stoney Roads. This will be my first chart, backing up fellow Stoners BenFaluviaKish and the rest of the brave souls who dared to publish their thoughts on the almighty internet.

It’s been a long stressful week, so for this chart I figured that I should strip it back and bring to you my top 10 tracks that are guaranteed to get you nodding your head and forgetting your troubles. So here it is, I suggest you play these tracks loud for good measure.

1. Ghost Loft – Seconds (Ta-ku Remix)

Ghost Loft is a US producer that I stumbled across while scouring SoundCloud when bored at home in the early hours one morning. Since then, I’ve always been a fan of his stuff and I’m keen to hear what he releases next. I’ve been following Ta-ku for a while and his music speaks for itself. Check out his latest remix of The Presets – ‘Fall’ here. The original mix of this track is worth checking out too, I love the vocal samples and it’s got some nice vibes.

2. Yahtzel – Girls

This is pretty rad, so many of these bedroom producer-type dudes make really good tracks but not many people get to hear them all the time so here’s me doing my part to help out young Yahtzel.

3. Jeremih – Fuck You All The Time (Shlohmo Remix)

Some gangster shit! This track is pretty cool, the beeping noise on the ‘fuck’ lyric is pretty annoying but still a good track and Shlohmo has a solid discography of good music.

4. XXYYXX – Fields

I went and saw XXYYXX recently when he came out for his debut Australian tour. He wasn’t very entertaining to watch but I still think he killed his live set musically. Not bad for someone who isn’t even legally allowed in a club, being only 17 years old. He has a load of production talent coming out his bedroom which is no doubt pissing off his parents with his subs shaking every window in the house.

5. Chrome Sparks – Marijuana

Brooklyn based Chrome Sparks is another bedroom producer that makes me wonder if my bedroom is broken and that’s why I can’t make stuff like this. He performs in a 3 piece when playing live, which I am really keen to see one day.

6. Charles Murdoch – We Can Control

As well as his solo stuff, Charles also plays bass in Mitzi (Future Classic) who will be playing Splendour In The Grass soon. If you like this track, it’s worth digging through his SoundCloud as you will not be disappointed. I struggled to pick out a song for this as there are so many good ones to choose from.

7. Kelpe – Beat Imperial

I can’t actually remember how I found this track anymore but it’s one of those songs that just randomly comes into my head when I stare blankly at the search bar in YouTube, can you guess how it made my list?

8. Clams Casino – I’m God

Clams Casino is from Jersey just like Pauly D, however I would have no problem backing up his credibility. Who knows if I can tell who a credible artist is though, check out Beatport’s version. I’m a big fan of his hip-hop crossovers but this tune is one of my favourites from him at the moment.

9. Toro Y Moi – Talamak

I’m a big believer in Toro and have been for a few years now. I never get sick of his music and some of his earlier stuff like his ‘Master Of None’ cover will never leave my record collection. Always a good op in this type of situation and I do credit him with influencing a new generation of producers.

10. Spenda C & DJ Butcher – My Shit

After all these tracks, you should be a bit more relaxed. So, for my last track why not throw in a twerk anthem. Butcher is a friend from back when I lived in Brisbane. He’s always been a straight up hip-hop dude and has achieved some pretty big feats. Recently, he’s taken a new direction and has been producing some club friendly weapons on his ‘$werve’ EP. Spenda C is also a really talented producer so anything these two together will no doubt be worth a listen.

That’s all! Thanks for reading, it’s been real.
