Pete Tongs Gets a Nod From The Queen of Britain for His DJ Career

BBC Radio 1 presenter Pete Tong, who mans the ever-popular ‘Essential Mix’ has been been given an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by the Queen of Britain for services to Broadcasting and Music in her majesties New Years Honours List of 2014.

Although we’re not sure what perks come with the award (discount parking? cheaper movies on Sunday?) the accolade is one for the resume with the now LA bound resident offering up a glowing response;

“It’s great to receive this honour for being a DJ. I’m proud that it acknowledges a profession that I care about a great deal, and one that’s made a huge impact around the world. I’d like to thank BBC Radio 1 for its unerring commitment to dance and electronic music and for supporting and encouraging me for over two decades. I’d like to thank all the club promoters in the UK and around the world for their passion and commitment to putting on amazing events and the artists producers and DJs that have been making and innovating with the music. This wouldn’t have happened without so many great tunes. Finally, to my family and team who have supported me on this journey in so many ways – thank you.”

Its all gone Pete Tong is ain’t with a positively explosive year with the above move to LA to work on new radio station, easily one of the most followed radio segments in the world – the Essential Mix who just revealed their ‘Essential Mix of the Year’ (any surprise there?), another successful year for IMS – International Music Summit, a compilation out earlier this year and some future film news with a project moving ahead with Liongate.

Those in Australia can actually experience the smoothest voices in radio with Pete Tong set to perform at the Australian Open January 18th as the biggest names in tennis go head to head.
