Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington Remix Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories

Nicolas Jaar and Darkside partner in crime Dave Harrington put on their Halloween masks six months ahead of schedule and did something bold beyond belief: remix Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories. In its entirety.

As is typically the case with most Nicolas Jaar edits and remixes, they’ve transformed another artist’s work into something completely different and, of course, darker. It’s innovative, it’s crazy, and it’s pretty amazing. The vocal affects–on “Get Lucky” in particular–along with the choppy, warped nature of the reworks bring it into a more psychedelic and less poppy sphere. Most remarkably, their version of “Get Lucky” is not at all annoying (see: every remix).

And I have no hesitation stating the somewhat obvious: Nicolas Jaar and his impending, follow-up album are on the cusp of transforming dance music just like Daft Punk did 13 years ago with Discovery.
