Teen Daze – Glacier LP [Lefse]

Canadian-based electronica wonderboy Teen Daze has just released his beautifully atmospheric third record ‘Glacier’ on the USA’s Lefse Records, and while you won’t find yourself busting out to the record while getting dressed to head out on the weekend like a lot of stuff on this site, you will most certainly have it stuck on repeat the following day as it gently nurses your head back to health with its ethereal pop lullabies. The album, which follows-up his two 2012 releases ‘All Of Us, Together’ and ‘The Inner Mansions’, is said to be “a collection of moments, historical particles and physical experiences … a testament to self-editing and sequencing”.

Each of the 8 tunes off the LP explore Teen Daze‘s experimentally gorgeous depths of chillwave and electronica in their own right – in the opener ‘Alaska’ he repeats “no one sees you, the way I see you”, and the album centerpiece ‘Ice On The Windowsill’ celebrates the notion of remaining indoors with the one you love as the world frosts over. Connecting each epiphany are wordless ruminations—like the twisted pitch of ‘Tundra’, or the cool warmth of ‘Forest At Dawn’ — some of the most evocative sound design in his career to date. ‘Walk’ is the rightful closer, an affectingly repetitious four chord salute to a fallen day.

The bloke never ceases to amaze me; in my opinion he is by far the best chillwave / synth-pop artist out there, and ‘Glacier’ exemplifies that yet again. If you don’t know Teen Daze yet, your time is now. My personal favourite is ‘Listen’ – absolutely beautiful. Yours?
