Let’s get cliche: while you may not have heard of George Maple, you’ve certainly heard her before. “Maple” is the pseudonym of Jess of “Foreign Language” fame. Let that sink in. As Maple, she co-wrote and featured on Flume’s hit “Bring You Down,” has now set her sights on a solo career, releasing the ethereal and lusty “Fixed.” The immediate comparisons and similarities to Jessie Ware cannot be avoided, but that’s not exactly a bad thing. I was drawn to the original when Flight Facilities blasted it over Facebook or Twitter, so those in the new are clearly up on George Maple. In a few words: she is legit. And as she’s already represented by WME, I’m expecting you’re going to be hearing (and hopefully seeing) a lot more of this emerging songstress.
In the mean time, Maribou State did the hypnotic, downtempo (let’s call this ChillTripStep?) remix thing to “Fixed”–and did it damn well. I’m on about my 7th consecutive listen, and it keeps getting sexier. If first impressions mean the world, then George Maple is a tempest brewing up global domination in both the hearts and loins of young lovers. Judging by her equally sultry voice and figure, she’s the chanteuse du jour and the one to watch this year. Get intimate.
The original, and its accompanying music video, are also quite breathtaking:
