Demon – Physics EP [Macabre Unit Digital]

Macabre Unit head honcho and label boss Demon delivers his first solo 12” project in the form of the Physics EP. Unsurprisingly, it’s a hard-hitting collection of precision engineered dubstep riddims which have already garnered DJ support from Rinse FM’s Icicle and J:Kenzo among others. Quite possibly his most accomplished solo effort and a landmark release for what has steadily become an essential imprint in the dark 140 bass arena.

Kicking off the EP, title track ‘Physics’ rolls in on haunting pads giving way to filtered breaks and swaying sub movements, complimented by a hard-hitting percussive structure and Demon’s trademark neck-snap snares. The first outing on the AA side, ‘Morning Glory’ seems to begin in a more reserved but nevertheless unnerving mood, unfolding into a crunchy, pulsating roller underpinned by techy drum work and twisted neuro bass licks. Finally, ‘Molecule’ rounds out the release with stuttered vocal FX and off-key edits riding on Bladerunner style acid licks and meticulous percussive patterns, a raw and edgy roller.
