Burial – Shell Of Light (Louis La Roche House Edit)

As a rule, I think, the dance community should try their absolute best to avoid touching Burial tracks. It’s not putting him on a pedestal or nothing, but generally the originals are so complete and close to perfection that it doesn’t need an outside influence. I emphasise the try however, as Louis La Roche has performed the unthinkable in his stomping house edit of the brilliant ‘Shell Of Light‘.

As worried as I was before listening to this, the opening 20 seconds eased all my fears, as the melodic progression began it’s flow and the ghostly shell of the original remained in place, the whole thing took an emotional, melancholic turn for the best. The sharp, synth stabs over one of my most adored samples is a neat touch, highlighting the destruction of boundaries between two fiercely opposed genres.

It’s a deserved success for an audacious attempt, proving that perhaps House music and Dubstep have a future together after all.
