Actress‘ ‘Grey Over Blue’ black label 12″ has just been released on Werkdiscs and Ninja Tune, being an entirely separate release from his forthcoming (and likely last) album ‘Ghettoville’ due out at the end of January. With press materials describing the record as a “bleached out and black tinted conclusion of the Actress image”, the A side is a freehand sketch of depressed drum machine ticks; the haunting sound of crumbling old buildings choked by city fumes and soaked in the city’s anxieties, while the B-side ‘Wee Bey’ is a viscous mix of pelting, undulating bass patterns offset with trickling rhythmelodies in a ganja-fogged headspace.
This is in a class of its own. Stream the nearly-8 minute ‘Grey Over Blue’ below.
