Major Drug Busts Over The Weekend Involved Nightclub Industry, Bikies and DJs

Akin to an episode of Underbelly an 18-month investigation into the control and supply of illegal narcotics on the Gold Coast have come to a head over the weekend with police executing several raids in up to four night clubs that have resulted in 152 arrests including bikies, club owners and DJs.

In total Police seized “18kgs of cocaine, MDMA and methamphetamine and six litres of methamphetamine oil” which is said to have a total gross worth of $11 million dollars.

The arrests included Jamie Pickering, a local with a multi million dollar property portfolio, a $250,000 yellow Ferrari with the number plates “SINCITY” and owner of clubs Vanity and Sincity of which police believed was harbouring illicit drug trade.

Also taken into custody was former Bandidos bike gang sergeant-in-arms Joshua Downey, a former ‘Cleo Bachelor of the Year’ contestant and local DJ and club manager Joseph ‘JoeyMojo’ Sandagon who along with five accomplices were arrested on drug trafficking – one of which was already on bail following a drug charge earlier in the year. Doh!

Regional crime co-ordinator Superintendent David Hutchinson said it was the biggest covert drug operation the Gold Coast had ever seen telling news.com.au; “It has prevented tens of kilos of dangerous drugs hitting the streets of the Gold Coast and removed from the community a number of high-profile drug traffickers who have been basically living the high life at the expense of our youth.”

It will be interesting to see what flow on affect this will have on the local scene and elsewhere in Australia.
