Alfa Romero: Cars, Silver, and House Music

It’s hard to find a breakout imprint these days not funded by an overshadowing massive producer. As album sales continue to be less prevalent and the distance to the top widens, the age of influential independent labels seems but a memory. Sure people listen to Cadenza’s releases but no doubt it helps to have that name supporting each new track. We like trying out new music as much as we test out a new restaurant in town. In this case this homegrown Italian cooking tastes damn good.

Fittingly named after the classic automobile manufacturer, Alfa Romero which began as a couple of Tuscan’s making tunes has evolvedsa into a budding brand quickly catching ears across the underground circuit. Lorenzo Bartoletti and Marzio Aricò  (aka Prudo) were in the dj circuit for years, it simply felt natural to bring their crew under a unified name. With a trio of releases under their belt, the four minds making up the label are bringing a niche of their own.

“Alfa Romeo is a classy brand know for Italy’s finest since their first cars in 1910. They have always been recognized for their gritty character, classy design, and of course speed. That is how we like to see ourselves… but in techno house music.”

Built on a strategy of one half audio and one half visual, in the world of Alfa Romero everything has a compliment. Head of creative Manuel Bozzi handcrafts the labels image. literally. For almost fifteen years Manuel has built a name for handcrafted silver pieces embodying all this is Italy. A common passion of art and music breathes through this physical representation of Alfa Romero. Though the imprint is still an infant, this unique accompaniment offers a solid touch to the digital audio counterpart.

Straight from the gates this small label includes established and respected names in techno such as Davide Squillace, Leon, and Betoko. Though cliché sounding, the attention to detail, quality, and planning is an appreciated approach in today’s dance market. A friendship formed across the world at the iconic Winter Music Conference Miami has spawned into an imprint organically rooted in the soul of Italy and passion that is techno.

Take it from us; this camp is worth a listen (and look). Alfa Romero is speeding up and the road of releases. Already playing showcases across Europe you can be sure to see these Italian playing hot spots in techno. Though many labels are solely digital these days, Alfa Romero is dishing out products we can rock both on the speakers and in the streets.
