Insiders: T.Williams’ Guide To London

Before playing alongside Julio Bashmore for a string of Australian dates, UK house savant T.Williams gave us the low down on London for our ‘Insiders’ guide – a guide by local’s for the savvy travellers.

Instead of sticking specifically with the food or clubs T’ gave us a rounded geez of London-town with a great place to tech out, where to hit some gold balls and even a secluded little pitt-stop!

T.Williams will play this Friday (15th) at Brown Alley in Melbourne  Saturday the 16th at the sold out Oxford Art Factory show along with future-bass man Julio Bashmore.

1) RESTAURANT: Williams’ of Ealing bar and grill

Got to try the sea bass, with the sautéd potatoes. My namesake but no relation. Two William’s Walking to Nando’s one day and saw my surname above a shop, and thought this must the sign of good things, so my mate and I, Dwayne Williams, skipped Nando’s for that. The writing was on the wall and we’ve never looked back.

2) RECORD SHOP: Phonica Records

First time I went there, I went there to put posters up for an event I was doing at Ministry of Sound. I didn’t know anyone in there and was just about buying house music at the time. I was welcomed with open arms and shown a place I could put my poster up with blu tac. Now it’s become a place where I can go when I’m in town and find some new music, have a chat with the guys and have a social, pick up a few vinyls.

3) CLUB: fabric

First time I ever went to fabric was for a drum n bass night many moons ago. I saw Andy C, and the first time I ever heard Andy C’s and Shimon’s “Bodyrock”. Think the main room has speakers in the floor, one of the most monumental times in my life when I first heard that tune and the ground moved…for everyone! Basically the club puts on the best and most forward thinking lineups in London, the sound system is second to none and how up for it the crowd are “up for it” and ready to go! It’s kind of hard to play a bad set!

4) TECH SHOP: Digital Village

Digital Village of Acton – I first went there when I was 14, with my mate to buy his first sampler, I bought a headphone jack just to feel like part of the experience – it was like a whole day out just going. Been going ever since, and have bought pretty much my entire studio from there. Guitar, soundcard, speakers, everything.

5) CHILL PLACE: Richmond River

Sunny day, pint of cider, watch the world go by.

6) DAY TRIP: Grand Union Canal Cycle

From Paddington Basin to Tring (home to Huxley) if you really can make it. Chilled cycle ride down the canal path, do the pub crawl on the way, nice scenic route for the summer.

7) SPORT: Northwick Park Driving Range

Bit of golf – regular haunt for me and one of my good pals, go down there to clear the head and let off the steam, try and hit an 800 yarder. There’s a curry house inside the building, and it’s the best one for miles around, nice posh curry place, post golfing meal for the winners.
