Frankie Knuckles Earns Presidential Tribute from Barack Obama and Sir Elton John

Dance innovator Frankie Knuckles has been remembered in a touching tribute from President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama as shown by an official White House letter that has found its way onto the internet.

The entire outpouring, written and dated April 17th looks back at the tragic passing but more importantly how his work managed to “bring people together” with his “blending genres” that helped to capture the attention and ignite the imaginations  of the Obama’s and generations of disco and dance fans.

Another surprising waiver of support came from Sir Elton John who upon hearing of the passing of the godfather of house launched the ‘Frankie Knuckles Fund’ – an organisation that looks to benefit HIV research in African-American communities sharing on his official website;

“Frankie was such a lovely man and a great talent, and his legacy provides a powerful voice to reach out to people, particularly men of color, about their essential role in helping to create an AIDS-free future,”

BBC also offered their condolences shortly after his passing by digging into their archives and offering up a stream of an Essential Mix recorded at Pacha in 2000 before airing it, a first for the station. There was also a campaign to get Frankie Knuckles disco burner “Your Love” to the number 1 spot in the charts to show the united support of dance floor lovers and Frankie fans.

Electronic producer Jimmy Edgar, who we recently interviewed also wanted to show his support and released a free edit of another Frankie bomb “Baby Wants To Ride” – get it here before reading the full letter below.
