Dada Life

Interviews give us a great opportunity to look into artists personalities and how they came about. Sometimes they care, sometimes they don’t and who can blame them? Same questions, same answers, day in day out. However, by revealing your self more, you’re attaching a personality to your product, it becomes more psychologically accessible by becoming defined and categorised by a set of traits and behaviours. There for it is an excellent way to get inside peoples heads, an area you would think you would market well. This is where the art of PR comes in, where you can shape the personality of your product to become publicly appealing, which can be done to a certain extent before you start looking like a tool. In this interview, I honestly can not tell if they did this in 2 mins and didn’t really care, or some PR intern did it. This was an emailer, and is what it is… enjoy!

To begin with how are you guys finding Australia? Been enjoying the sights and sounds?
Been getting up to much mischief?
It’s been a while since we played in Australia so it’s going to be amazing to come back. We love playing in Australia!

What were you guys like growing up? Did you always have aspirations of being DJ/Producers?
We’ve always been doing music in one way or another since we were kids. DJing, playing in punk bands, playing classical piano, doing music on old computers. It’s all a blur.

I read in an interview that you guys love to cook and that your musical relationship began when you both met a chili cook off. Do guys still do any cook offs?Have either one of you got a favorite chili recipe?
Home made banana habanero hot sauce.

What is the deal with the champagne and bananas? How did you come up with that?
We had it on the rider just because we needed it. Bubbly alcohol and bananas to keep you going like after a work out. Then we realized that they also looked good together. But it’s all about the combo, not the taste as some people think.

What is the Dada life?
You can live a Dada life anyway you want it. Just do it proper.

You have probably getting bombarded with questions about this, but recently you guys made some press with having your passports taken away due to the worldwide Dada rallies, what’s the story behind it? Why a world rally? What was it’s purpose?
Dada Land is a special place for us and all the other citizens. So we thought: why not claim it to be a sovereign nation? Then no one can told us what to do. You know, only The rules of Dada in effect.

When you guys had your passports taken, what did the authorities ask you?
First they didn’t say anything but after the weekend we learned it had to do with Dada Land being claimed a sovereign nation. Swedish authorities weren’t too happy about that.

Do you think that you guys still perceived as some sort of threat?
No. We’ve talked with them and it’s all fine. We can’t go into details, but we think we’re going to be safe to travel. We hope anyway.

The whole ordeal triggered a bit of indignation from the public about how the Swedish government went a little over board with the situation. How do you guys feel about the whole situation?
Apparently there are other rules than the Rules of Dada. But not in Dada Land! At least now we know how far we can go before the authorities starts to react.

What does this mean for Dada land?
Nothing. We still claim every club and every show we play as our territory. When we’re standing on the stage, all the people that see us up there can be safe, knowing that they’re in Dada Land.

Because of your act and the message of your songs, many outlets have labeled Dada life as “Party Rock” or as being the Swedish LMFAO. How would you respond to this? Is this a criticism or a compliment?
Never heard that one. We don’t care what people call us in general.

Do you have any memorable stories from being on tour?
Too many. But you never remember them!

Have you guys got any albums, artists or people that have inspired you to be where you are now?
So many. Little Richard, Stockhausen, early Prodigy and early Daft Punk. And all the machines! The 303 is just one…

What sort of knowledge of dance music do you think your average audiences have?
does it matter? You don’t need to know shit to move your feet. And that’s the only thing that matters.

Where would you guys be now if you were not making music?
Dead.
