Chris From The Bag Raiders Gives Us His Nov Top 10

Chris Stracey Bag Raiders

Top 10 what? Well ask Chris (the one on the left) – 1/2 of the Bag Raiders and it could be anything!

This month he’s talking Mr Oizo, Drake, Burgers and his dream last night… He even so eloquently introduced it as ‘shit I have been feeling lately…’ right on Chris, right on haha

The top 10 things out of the shit i have been feeling lately..

10. Stade 2, The Mr. Oizo Album..
I had no idea Oizo had a new album out until i started to see some tweets about it, i got it right away to check it out and then i started seeing a whole lot more tweets about it because the dude was retweeting everyone who tweeted at him, and starting to piss people off and lose followers and i think it’s still going on as i write this! I have to say though, i’ve listened to this album a few times, one of which was on a 2hr bus ride in Brazil from Sao Paolo to the SWU festival at 6am after a night of too much churrasco and not enough sleep. I’m going to say, it’s pretty fucking good. Whilst it is by no means easy listening, it’s very creative and has grooves and seems to make perfect sense. It also is hilarious at times for example the track “edn”

9. Alley Cat – Volta Bureau
This track got me good. It’s for sure got a cool beat that you can dance to. It’s got piano solos, cello solos, synths, samples.. it kinda sounds like daft punk.. what more do you need.

8. Julio Bashmore Essential Mix [September 24, 2011]
i remember in september when i was like “oh shit julio bashmore did an essential mix, i should check that out” I’m normally not one to listen to DJ mixes but i love what the dude does and man this one is pretty damn good.. like really damn good..

7, Love Theme – What So Not
My friend Cassian sent this to me, and then i got promo’d it like an hour later. That guy is always one step ahead of the game.. I’ve been caning this at our DJ sets lately.. It’s incredible. It floats off, it goes tropical, it hits hard.. It has groove, style, flair.. I’m feeling this one a lot at the moment and i will be playing it for the foreseeable future..

6. Dishlicker – www.dishlicker.com
I’m not just saying this because i’m a partner in it either aye. Haha seriously though, it is important that you know where to get some good ass food in your life.. We travel a lot and and always wanna know where to eat some GOOD food. So my friends Geeg and Trevor (DJ Skeet-Skeet) put together this bad boy to help collate good food info from our DJ/Chef/Food blogger/Legend friends. Aside from documenting all the burgers i eat, i also use it all the time when i travel to find food.

5. Take Care, The Drake Album…
This one was probably my most anticipated album of the entire year.. It smashes weezy’s album out the park. So glad i didn’t feel let down by this.. Right around the time it came out i had been driving round LA listening to Power 106 which basically only plays about 4songs a day that don’t feature Drake, so i was just about getting sick of the dude, but then the album leaked… And it’s definitely one of those “copped the leak but still going to go and buy the CD” albums.. So many magic moments. Feeling the shit out of this..

4. Off My Mind – Moon Boots
This has some swing!!! I kind of just stumbled across this one when i was doing some beatport shopping and it popped up in the “suggested other shit you may like” section. It’s turned into one of my favourite songs at the moment though. The vocal is simple, but soulful and funked.. There’s not a lot to fault in this track.. It even does a 90’s piano breakdown and at times almost sounds new jack swing, which ain’t ever a bad thing baby..

3. Wake Me When It’s Over – Terius Nash
The dream is one of the best pop writers out this minute. The 1977 album is pretty good.. This is about the best track off of it, and it’s the first track. The only drag about this track is that it’s about a minute and a half too long.. You don’t want your reaction to the song to be true to it’s title here. You want it to be more like “i wanna stay awake forever and i never want this to be over”.. and then it ends just before you’ve had enough so you keep going back to the beginning again.. Having said that, this is on a mix cd in my car and i always listen to it twice (i hit the back button at about 4mins).. It’s fucking incredible. Slow, nice, melancholic, those background drums that are really just for feeling rather than to hold a beat, the synth chords, the vocal melody.. Wow.

2. Mi Rhumba – Kyodai
This is kinda deep, kinda progressive, around ten minutes long and a pleasure to listen to. I don’t often listen to house in my spare time if it’s not for finding tracks for DJing, but this one found its way into my most recent ipod playlist. I really like how this develops. It starts out super deep, but it builds in groove and then it breaks down.. and when it comes in it’s a level up.. and then that builds.. and then it steps up another notch. then it kinda climaxes, and breaks and winds down.. It’s very much a “how to” of house music, impressively executed and extremely cool.

1. My dream from last night.
Last night i had this dream that i lived with lions. It was so insane. I was rolling in the savannah with these lions and lionesses and it was pretty overwhelming to be amongst the awesome power of these majestic killing machines and even cooler that they seemed to be down with me. I think it was because my friend Geeg sent me this youtube of a south african dude who is like the “lion man”. Either way, it was one of the coolest dreams i had in AGES and i was FEELING IT. When i woke up i actually forgot about it but i knew that my dreams had been incredible and then later i was at the gas station and this lonely dog was walking by me, it was a crazy shaggy dog that had been given a lion haircut. It instantly propelled me back into my dream and i remembered it vividly. Amazing stuff.

We’re hoping Chris can keep this up as a monthly thing for us, stay tuned!
