Mere months after this years record-setting production of Ultra Music Festival, the Miami-based camp has released the dates and pre-sale information for the 2014 edition. This years debut two week party set records in downtown Miami with over three hundred thousand fans taking to the streets of downtown Miami. The fifteenth running of the party saw the return of Deadmou5, an underground focus stage called ‘Surface’, and the final two shows of Swedish House Mafia. Check out what we had to say about the madness that occurred during UMF 2013.

Live streamed on Youtube for all six days, UMF sets a few records for global views. Finishing up with around ten million unique visitors worldwide, and two hundred thouand watching during the Swedish House Mafia sign-off it seems that the majority of global dance fans tunes in a some point.

In the annual fashion of getting earlier each year, Ultra announced details and ticket sales today for those ready to rave. With Summer festival season barely getting started, we hope year wallets are padded because with pre-sales checking in at $150 this deal is too good to pass up.

There is a lot of affection for Swedish House Mafia in this world, and it’s not hard to see why. They’ve produced six huge pop/’EDM’ crossover tracks since their formation in late 2008, and the production behind their stage show is nothing short of a spectacle. However much to the disappointment of their millions of fans, the trio of Swedish lads announced in June last year that they would be parting ways. They came, they raved, they loved.

As the screen finally faded to black after their extremely extensive farewell tour, a lot of people who don’t ‘heart’ Swedish House Mafia were joyful. They then proceeded to express their joy through the majesty of the English language, which went something along the lines of the following.

“We’ve already forgotten the last name of that Felix bloke who jumped from the edge of bloody space, but somehow the entire world knows the words to Swedish Cunt Mafia’s latest boring-as-shit single!”

“im sew excited tha sexxxi swedes r doing #1LASTTOUR!!! <3 <3 <3″

“SHM have literally produced six tacks together over 4 years. I’m pretty sure one of them was just an advertisement for vodka. They sure worked hard for this success *tips hat sarcastically*.”

Now an article from Mixmag has revealed the highly likely probability of a soon-to-be-announced Swedish House Mafia documentary. It’s sure to be an inspiring tale of the Swedes’ significant contributions to music. Many will take heart from this film, and go on to create their own <del>marketing schemes</del> music.

If, tragically, this announcement turns out to be anything other than a Swedish House Mafia documentary, it should be understood that the impressionable young artists of the world can always return to the words written below if they’re ever in need of creative inspiration ala SHM.

In music, you shouldn’t challenge expectations. Instead, always strive to create a sound that is different enough that it seems like a rebellious option for the youth to get behind, but bland enough that it doesn’t obscure the simple melody. That way, the song will be easily remembered by people once it gets added to the playlist of 20 songs that mainstage DJs are allowed to play at music festivals. If you follow this formula and lick the penises of enough label reps, you’ll be destined for success!

Now as a reward for reading about a Swedish House Mafia documentary for so long, here’s some new music that we actually like. It’s not for everyone but that’s really quite ok.

The London duo De$ignated have been making waves with a stream of solid remixes. At the forefront of the fresh UK sound, these two are another group of young producer sporting a classic sound with a new twist. We are pretty excited for their debut single “Valentine” Featuring Kyiki From Crystal Fighters is due June 9th via Shifting Peaks Records. After following them for quite some time we asked for their advice on some bomb tunes that they are supporting. Have a listen to what tracks each of them send over that are really shaking it right now.

Nima’s Picks:

Kyogi – If Only They Knew
Haven’t heard a house track like this, really original and pretty deep in my eyes, one of those tracks you can sit home and listen to on a nice surround system and self reflect.

Network – Rainforest
Totally gutter track, an original house track in my eyes as well, dirty, tropical and always goes off in a club without fail.

Majora – Shook
To me this is the mixture of the dark warehouse UK Techno & Old school grime, i love it, sonically its like sex to my ears.

LKiD – Light It Up
When i first heard this, jesus, i had it on repeat constantly, dirty ghetto banger, to me this is the sound of this years Summer.

Gardna – Vinyl Records (Medrea Remix)
A Fairly old track, 6/7 months old, but the idea to me is pretty original, classic UK hip hop vocals mixed with the sounds of today’s UK’s Bass scene, i think the fusion of underground hip hop with the Future Sounds could really work into creating a new Genre, Another good example of this is “Jaquo George – 4thaNastie”.

Rory’s Picks:

Karma kid – In My Arms (Maths Time Joy Remix)
Huge tune by Karma Kid, and Maths Time Joy really smashed this remix. Completely
changed the vibe turning it into a chilled one, with that burst of energy on the second drop.
Can see this being a great last song of the night.

Julio Bashmore – Au Seve (Star One Refix)
This one always gets a rewind every time without fail. crazy switch up by Star One, perfect to go absolutely mental too.

Shift K3Y – What we had
Original one from shift key, all round banger. catchy vocal, and an interesting take on the trap sound, blended with garage.

Skanky – 1 More Night
This is going to get rinsed this Summer! positive summer night vibes from skanky. Somehow the chord pattern doesn’t get boring for the whole length of the song.

Slowolf – Dance Floor (TCTS Remix)
Massive house tune from TCTS, listened to this one alot recently. Something very fresh about this one, dont think ive heard anything particuarly similar.

Make sure to keep up with De$ignated and look out for their single “Valentine” Feauturing Kyiki From Crystal Fighters Out June 9th via Shifting Peaks Records with Remixes From Kyogi, AppleBottom, Carling Ruse & Kaveh. Also for more tune see the five future tracks with another UK duo: Bondax.

DEEP MEDi is proud to announce Swindle’s longplayer Long Live The Jazz.

“This project has consumed my whole life over the last year and half and I’m over the moon to finally be able to share it! Deep Medi, Butterz #LongLiveTheJazz”

The album delves into the increasingly blurred sounds of grime, dubstep, and bass music alongside musical influences from artists such as George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic and Roy Ayers. Purple synths, colourful vocoder work (think Joker and Redinho) and growling basslines litter the album, with guest spots and collaborations from Nadia Suliman & Footsie, The Milk, Terri Walker and Sam Frank sitting alongside Swindle’s solo tracks. Even the toughest beats on the album are placed side by side by delicate touches of funk and soul.

Swindle’s rise to fame began as his releases on Planet Mu and his own Swindle Productions gained attention from Elijah & Skilliam, who began to feature his music regularly on their Rinse FM radio show. A release on Butterz followed shortly after, leading to his DEEP MEDi release Do The Jazz.

Having now produced tracks for the likes of Roll Deep, Chipmunk, Professor Green and Asher D, co-producing with Toddla T and Silkie and featuring on the Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’ tribute compilation, Swindle’s also a regular on the DJ and radio circuit, playing in clubs up and down the UK, Europe, America and South Africa whilst holding up a regular slot on Rinse FM.

I’m not allowed to put clips of the album up yet but they’ll be here ASAP.

Released 16th of June via Mala’s famous DEEP MEDi. Stay tuned!

Marquee Sydney are excited to be a part of the second coming of Bang Gang member Dangerous Dan this Friday.

The close acquaintance of the late (and legendary) Ajax is a creative entrepreneur/producer co establishing the internationally recognised fashion label Ksubi and solely collaborating on his new clothing project DAAN. Fashion aside, Dangerous Dan (the producer) is back! With a record in the works being made alongside old time compadre Nicky Van She and a headline launch at Marquee Sydney’s new night Mashup Fridays, we caught up via email to ask a few questions on his journey thus far!

You were a member of Bang Gang, founder of Ksubi and more! What would view as the most exciting time of your life? And why?

Wow! Hard first question to ask! Everything that has happened in the past and everything that is happening now has all been about how to make the future more exciting.

It’s not until an interview like this or a look back at the Ksubi book that I get to cherish those times, or similar, until our Bang Gang reunion party that I had never really got the full effect of what we had done at that time. Reminiscing now it was a moment of ‘wow’ life changing times, but during it we were all looking forward to what was next, we still are. I guess there is a lesson in that. Enjoy the moment.

Is music as important to you now as it was when Bang Gang was in full swing? Has your taste changed?

Music has and always will be the most important part of my life excluding my boy, my babe, my family and my friends. It has inspired me to do all my fashion and everything else I have done. My taste is always changing and always coming back to my favourites. The best thing about music is that at any time, any moment, there will be something that suits.

Where are you at with your Career? How has the start of DAAN clothing been?

It’s so exciting right now! Brand new label, brand new start, designing clothes solo for the first time ever and I’m loving it. My career now is about doing less but doing it better, I’m really excited about collaborating with some great people, especially my lil bro BENI.

What’s your favourite track at this minute?

My favourites always stay my favourites and I can’t pick just one. So, in no particular order:

Daft Punk – Around the world,
Shuggie Otis – Strawberry letter 23
MJ – Off the wall
Supertramp – Goodbye Stranger
Womack and Womack – Teardrops
Primal Scream – Come Together
Wham – Club Tropicana
Futureheads mix of Kate Bush – Hounds of Love
Gonzales – Working Together
Phoenix – If I Ever Feel Better
Smashing Pumpkins – 1979
Loletta Holloway – Runaway
Boyz Noize -Yeah
Felix da Housecat – Silver Screen Shower Scene
Chaka Khan – Fate
All of Beni’s stuff.
To end it, the one jam I am fully supporting right at this moment is, SUNLIGHT by Nicky Night Time and Sneaky.

What’s your favourite video on YouTube right now?

I try not to get too deep into watching You Tube videos, they can be a time trap. But my all time favourite is the Motown anniversary when MJ does his first moonwalk on stage. Still gives me goose bumps.

Go shawwwty, it’s ya birthday. 50 Cent has been added as a late headliner for this years X-Games joining dance producer Zedd.

The German electro house producer has most recently remixed Australian Indie Dance act Empire Of The Sun and their first single off their sophomore album ‘Ice on the Dune’ titled ‘Alive’. The remix has been met with fanfare in the dance community and consequently been a positive impact on the booking by X-Games.

The Hip Hop star and producer are set to hit the stage at the festival between May 16 to May 19 in Barcelona, Spain. Good excuse to eat payola and get indigestion dancing afterwards in my opinion.

Electric Daisy Carnival founder and Insomniac Events CEO Pasquale Rotella is facing the long stiff arm of the law as he looks to be jailed for up to 13 years for bribery, embezzlement, conspiracy and conflict of interest charges – 29 accounts in total!

Having only just married Playboy Bunny Holly Madison after the announcement of their first child, the Los Angeles resident breathes easy overnight after posting a whopping $1.8 million bail.

The charges come to light after a long 13 month investigation over the drug overdose of a 15 year old girl his event in 2010 and reports of bribery towards city councillors.

Rotella’s attorney, Gary Jay Kaufman, said the charges are “politically motivated and publicity driven” and feels confident his client will be found innocent.

“[Rotella] has always acted lawfully and appropriately with respect to all of his dealings with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum,” Kaufman told Radar. “Any allegations of wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Rotella by the District Attorney’s office are completely baseless and flat-out wrong, both on the law and on the facts.”

In a more positive light Pasquale is seen by the dance community as a ‘good guy’ who has helped the rave culture progressive and evolve through current times! This year’s EDC had also managed to sell out before their lineup announcement and launched a sister event in London!

How this will affect the rumoured Live Nation bid or EDC’s future is yet to be seen. More to come.

Skream is in damage control after receiving backlash for a dusty set at the Boiler Room x Ray Ban event.

It didn’t take long to realise Skream may have enjoyed a fair few brewskis (or something of that nature?) before playing! In his own defence the UK born and bred producer came out with the statement below via his official Facebook page.

“So I’m getting alot of stick because of my Ray Ban x Boiler Room set…..
1. I know its an awful mix.
2. Yes I was clearly smashed.
3. I’ve apologized already for what happened.

People judging for that can do so, I’ve proved I can DJ too many times. If you wanna say I’m a shit DJ then cool. Anyone who was at my ‘Skreamizm’ show at Barcelona the day before know’s this isn’t the case. Have a good day people.”

This is the same show that saw Skream flipping out having been cut off for abusing the levels slash passing curfew that led to the producer handing out two CDJ2000′s.

30 minutes of his life and he couldn’t hold it together. Makes us wonder. What do you think? Good set? bad set?
