With 170 venue shutting down in 4 years across Sydney’s once bustling nightlife and Gladys Berejiklian’s new Liberal Party festival regulations designed to choke out music festivals financially from happening, there’s an opportunity coming up for people in NSW to save and even re-build what’s left.
In the lead up to the NSW State election on the 23rd of March, The NSW Labor party have announced a fleet of pro music and nightlife policies to counter act the relentless destruction of Sydney’s creative hubs lead by The Liberal Party.
Here’s the policies The Labor Party are looking to introduce.
🎸 Amend the Liquor Act to introduce the “right to play”
🎧 Create a one-stop shop for both venues and residents to deal with noise complaints
🥁 Establish a single process for venues to obtain planning and liquor approvals
🌑 Create a Minister for Music and Night Time Economy – John Graham
📝 Conduct a census to establish the number of venues, musicians and performances that take place at any given time in NSW
🎉 Provide $1.2 million to assist with soundproofing
If you are pro nightlife and pro pill testing as well, political parties including The Greens and Keep Sydney Open have both made their position clear in wanting to roll back the lockout laws and introduce pill testing across NSW music festivals.
